Report: Georgia Most Expensive State to Operate a Motor Vehicle
Georgia is the most expensive state to operate a motor vehicle in, according to a recently released report by Bankrate.com.
The report looked at factors that include: the cost of gasoline, repairs, and vehicle taxes. It found that on average, Georgians spend more than $4,200 per year on vehicle costs. Chris Kahn with Bankrate.com says that’s more than $1,000 above the national average.
“Georgia was higher than average when it came to car repairs, gasoline costs, but really the big one was taxes and fees.”
Kahn says when examining Kelly Blue Book data between 2010 and 2012, it found Georgians paid an average of one thousand nine hundred and fifty two dollars in taxes and fees per year.
“That’s well above the national average, about $900 more, and that’s really where we’re seeing a lot of variety from state to state is really how much drivers are paying in taxes and fees.”
According to Bankrate.com, other states that rank high in costs for operating a motor vehicle include: California, Wyoming and Rhode Island. Meanwhile, Oregon is the least expensive state to own a motor vehicle. The report examined data prior to Georgia phasing out the so-called birthday tax on cars.
