The next stretch of the trail should be open by fall. It will include a bridge crossing the South River and will be part of a trail nearly 10 miles long.

When all sections are finished, the trail will follow the river from DeKalb County all the way to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit near Conyers.

Andrew Hammer heads up special projects for Rockdale County. He expects this part of the trail to be as popular as the two sections already completed. “It’s almost an ‘If you build it, they will come’ type scenario at least it has been for Rockdale.  They’ll come down the trail, and as soon as we connect the next section, we have all kinds of walkers, we have local biking groups, cycling groups.”

This section of the multi-use trail expected to be finished next fall.  The entire Rockdale River Trail is set for completion by 2015.
