Roswell Police Issue Phone Scam Warning
Roswell authorities are searching for a person who has allegedly been impersonating a Fulton County sheriff’s deputy.
According to Roswell Police spokeswoman Lisa Holland, the man is calling people and claiming there’s a warrant for their arrest for speeding on GA 400.
WABE's John Lorinc reports Roswell police have issued a warning about a phone scam.
“The victims ranged from 40 years old to 86 years old,” says Holland.
Holland says the impersonator allegedly says he’ll void the warrant if a fine is paid by money order or credit card.
Dozens of people were called over the past few days and some of them told Roswell authorities they gave the caller financial information.
Holland says authorities never ask for payments over the phone.
“You know the toll booth, or the red light cameras….they send you a letter in the mail with a picture of your tag and your car, you know, doing the violation.”
An investigation is underway and if the man is caught Holland says he’ll be charged with impersonating an officer, credit card fraud and identity fraud.
