New York-based Shonali Bhowmik is mastering the art of entertainment, using several mediums at a time. The former Atlantan is an accomplished comedian, musician, actor and writer.

Today, she returns to music with a new solo album, “One Machine at a Time.” Bhowmik joined “City Lights” producer Kim Drobes via Zoom to discuss her thoughts about this latest album.

Although Bhowmik’s original instinct was to release the album under a pseudonym, she resisted the urge and put it out attached to her real name and face.

“This album is so connected to my personal journey in the past five years, and I just really felt like I needed to be louder and more vocal about what I’ve been going through and what I’ve experienced,” says Bhowmik.

“Intention is everything. It’s really a big part of this album. Me being in Atlanta is intentional, [I want] to get back to the city where I first started recording albums in, and I have so many amazing musician friends in,” shared Bohmik about her connections to the city.

She’ll be celebrating those Atlanta connections this Friday, July 26, with a free show at Criminal Records at 6 pm. Then, later that evening, there will be a listening party at Commune, a new wine bar and listening room in Avondale Estates.

Bhowmik is also scheduled to perform at the Star Bar on Aug. 23.
