Sixteen people were taken to area hospitals after a hotel shuttle bus collided with a tractor-trailer near the Atlanta airport Friday morning.

Police say the tractor-trailer was making a U-turn at an intersection on Loop Rood near I-85, just off the Atlanta airport.

The driver of a private shuttle carrying passengers from three nearby hotels reportedly slammed on the breaks, skidded 90 feet, then hit the semi’s trailer, which was blocking the intersection.

Sgt. Keith Stanley is with the College Park Police Department, which is leading the investigation.

“It was at an intersection… where there was supposed to be a sign, ‘No U-turns,’ so that’s under investigation,” says Sgt. Keith Stanley with the College Park Police Dept., which is leading the investigation.

Ten of the 16 victims were taken to Grady Hospital, while the other six were taken to Atlanta Medical Center.

By Friday evening, the Medical Center had released four patients including one child.

The other two were listed in fair condition, a hospital spokesperson said.

Grady Hospital admitted three patients for injuries ranging from fractures to collapsed lungs. Dr. Leon Haley, Grady’s Chief of Emergency Medicine, calls those injuries serious but not life-threatening.

Grady also admitted a 12-year-old child for observation. Doctors there treated and released four patients, and as of Friday evening, were still evaluating two others.
