Sounds from ASO’s Benefit Concert

Last night, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Players Association played the first of two benefit concerts—in the midst of stormy negotiations and a lockout.

One purpose of the free concerts, at North Atlanta High School’s Center for the Arts, is to collect donations from concertgoers to support the musicians’ health insurance—which has been cut off since the current lock-out began in late August.

Last night’s performance attracted nearly 600 attendees, and raised nearly $10,000, according to the ASOPA. WABE was there, to gather sounds—including the thoughts of many of those in attendance.

For its part, ASO management says that because this is a precious moment in the negotiations, they are unable to comment further on the dispute or on the benefit concerts.
