Broly Su is an Atlanta visual artist, illustrator and designer. He works in digital media as well as traditional materials, drawing inspiration from hip-hop culture, sneaker culture and tattoo art in his imagery.
Growing up as a kid in China, Su doodled habitually, finding ways to draw in every spare moment, a tendency that continues to this day. His illustrations bring to mind cartoon and comic artists like Matt Furie (“Boy’s Club”) and Pendleton Ward (“Adventure Time”), with thick lines, bold colors and a charmingly vivid, kinetic style.
“I feel like artwork has the power to contain your messages and ideas — as if you sealed, at the time, your brain, your attitude, on paper, and that is permanent; you could have that forever,” Su mused.
His love for art and street culture found a perfect home in Atlanta, where he now enjoys a community of like-minded creators. He namedropped Cat Eye Creative, ABV Gallery and the FreeMarket Gallery as some of his favorite art spaces in the local scene.
Su’s work is currently on display as part of ABV Gallery’s “Outer Space Project” series. More work can be found at his website, www.brolysu.com, or on Instagram at @8rolysu.
