According to The Atlanta Business Chronicle, Georgia State Stadium will be renamed Center Parc Credit Union Stadium after Georgia State University reached a $21.5 million deal with the organization.

Aaron Diamant, vice chancellor of communications for the University System of Georgia says the USG Board of Regents’ Real Estate and Facilities Committee approved the naming on Thursday, Aug. 6 but that the action is not final and will advance to the full board consideration on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The iconic Olympic stadium was purchased by the university in 2016 when the Atlanta Braves relocated to what is now known as Truist Park in Cobb County. Acquiring a corporate partner for the stadium was part of the original strategy to convert the ballpark to at 24,000-seat football stadium for the Georgia State Panthers.

Many Atlanta residents took to Twitter on Monday to say that despite the sports complex’s second name change in four years, they will continue to refer to it as Turner Field.
