State Memorial To Martin Luther King, Jr., Would Be Latest In Long Line [Slideshow]
The Georgia State Senate is poised to take the final vote needed to send a bill to Gov. Deal authorizing a memorial to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on the grounds of the State Capitol. But, as bill sponsor Rep. Calvin Smyre (D-Columbus) pointed out on Monday, time is running short with only four days left on the legislative calendar for this year.
If Dr. King’s home state approves such a memorial, it would join a long list of places and organizations around the world that have honored him with a statue, a mural, or other memorial.
We have prepared a slide show with pictures of memorials to Dr. King from around the world. They illustrate the wide range of art and expression that has been used to honor Dr. King.
