The Fort McPherson Local Redevelopment Authority is entering into a 45-day exclusive negotiation with religious leader, author and filmmaker T.D. Jakes for the potential purchase and development of 132 acres at the former Atlanta Army base.
The Fort Mac LRA board of directors reported the talks with the T.D. Jakes‘ real estate ventures group following a Thursday afternoon meeting.
“The announcement today allows for the T.D. Jakes real estate development group to enter into an exclusive 45-day negotiation with Fort Mac LRA to purchase and develop a portion of the remaining property, which consists of 132 acres,” the Fort Mac LRA board of directors said in a statement.
Atlanta film mogul Tyler Perry bought 330 acres of the former Fort McPherson for $30 million in 2015, where he has created Tyler Perry Studios. The studio complex officially opened in October 2019.
“We’d like to thank Tyler Perry for the vision he’s had for this property and its potential for nearly a decade, and Bishop T.D. Jakes and his team for their ability to embrace the vision and work together on a potential development with the Fort Mac LRA,” said Cassius F. Butts, chairman of the board of directors, in a statement.
