Tech and UGA Men’s Hoops Teams Miss NCAA Tourney: Why Can’t They Draw More Home Talent?

The NCAA men’s basketball tournament will crown its champion in Atlanta this year.  But the two biggest home teams–Georgia Tech and UGA–will have no say in who it will be.  Neither team made the tournament this year, continuing a run of several years’ worth of missed chances or early exits.

Yet, Georgia is home to many talented young players who could be on the Tech or UGA rosters, and boost their chances of making it to the Big Dance–and staying for awhile once there.  That raises the question of why the big Georgia schools aren’t attracting more of that top home talent.  WABE’s Denis O’Hayer, who’s currently at the bottom of the newsroom’s NCAA bracket contest, explored the issue with veteran sports journalist I.J. Rosenberg, president of Score Atlanta.
