On City Lights’ series “Speaking of Music,” local musicians share work and stories in their own voices. In today’s segment, we feature Atlanta musicians Alix and Deary of the Brower Sisters Band, who both play guitar and sing.

The teen sisters describe their music as “super fun” and that it “is just getting funner!” They say the best genre to describe their music is indie rock.

The two started playing the piano at four years old when their grandmother gifted them with a piano. In the 3rd grade, they expanded with wanting to learn more instruments like drums, ukulele and guitar.

The twins were born in Atlanta and have lived here their whole lives. In many of their songs, they mention parts of Atlanta in the lyrics. Being twins, they get many inspirational ideas from each other when creating music.

“Like if I’m having trouble writing some lyrics or whatever, I can just go to my twin and I’m like, ‘Yo, help me out,’ and it’s great,” Deary said.

The Brower Sisters Band will be performing at the East Atlanta Strut Festival this weekend. More information about the Brower Sisters and their debut EP “Old Friends Are New Strangers” “can be found here.
