It’s an understatement to say that the Atlanta Opera has thrived with the leadership of general and artistic director Tomer Zvulun. The company has earned international recognition for the quality of its productions and Zvulun’s visionary management.
His innovative achievements now include plans for an Atlanta Opera Arts Center on the Beltline. A new, nearly 5-acre complex is in development at the site of the Bobby Jones Golf Course Clubhouse in Buckhead, and will provide the opera with a permanent home, featuring a recital hall, rehearsal spaces and headquarters for its education and administrative efforts.
Tomer Zvulun recently joined Lois Reitzes on “City Lights” to discuss the Atlanta Opera’s grand plans.
The centerpiece of the project is a 200-seat recital hall housed set within the Greek Revival-style clubhouse. The hall will serve as an intimate venue for chamber music, cabaret, jazz and small-scale opera productions, complementing full-stage performances at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
Adjacent to the clubhouse, a brand new building will include offices, a film studio, a costume shop and a flexible performance space.
