Atlanta has gained a reputation as a comedy-friendly city, and one recurring local comedy show aims to push the boundaries of the familiar, bringing a touch of the strange to adventurous comedy-seeking audiences. Comedian, writer and performer Will Amato founded the Parlor Show, a live variety event that explores the darker, and funnier, side of the human experience.

Amato recently joined “City Lights” Managing Producer Kim Drobes to discuss the Parlor Show concept.

“It’s almost like going to a live book reading,” says Amato, describing the format of the show. It’s intimate, with seasoned comedians bringing up new content to work in front of a small crowd, Second City style.

Amato hopes to foster a place for talented comics to hone their new material. At the Parlor Show, audiences should expect more adventurous routines from comics who might otherwise stick to their regular format. The next Parlor Show is Friday, Sept. 13 at Dynamic El Dorado on Edgewood Avenue.
