Thoughts on Atlanta’s Arts Commitment, 50 Years After the Orly Crash
On Sunday, June 3rd, Atlantans will mark 50 years since the crash of a plane carrying leading members of the city’s arts community at Orly Airport in Paris. The tragedy sparked a major effort to turn Atlanta into a major center for the arts. However, 50 years later many advocates for the arts wonder if the commitment from government and business is still there. WABE’s Denis O’Hayer spoke with former Atlanta Mayor Sam Massell, now president of the Buckhead Coalition, and with current Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed.
