Truist Bank is closing some Georgia locations soon
Truist Bank is shutting down some metro Atlanta locations as part of the company’s plan to shrink its retail footprint.
Eight of the departing branches are in Georgia. Of those, six are in metro Atlanta, one is in Dalton and one is in Macon.
This week, Truist Bank officials announced it is closing 4% of over 1,900 branches in March. A Truist spokesperson said in an email to WABE that impacted customers were notified earlier this month.
The spokesperson said the locations that will close were selected based on several factors, including client behavior, branch traffic and transaction volume.
“For the vast majority of branches that are closing, clients will have access to a branch about two and a half miles away on the average.”
“We’re seeing an explosion in online purchases,” said Doug Bowmen, a marketing professor at Emory University’s Goizutetta Business School. “And that’s causing retailers to rethink whether they need as much brick and mortar space as they’ve had in the past.”
Bowmen said we can expect this trend to continue outside of the financial services industry next year.
“You’re going to see a wide selection of retailers, really rethinking the number of stores they have, and especially stores that are in low, low traffic areas.”
