Two Metro Atlanta Schools Get Green Ribbon Honor
Two schools in metro Atlanta have earned the U.S. Education Department Green Ribbon Designation.
One of them is the High Meadows School in Roswell.
Officials there say it’s an honor.
“It’s more important to have our students just continue to reflect on what we can do to make a change in our world. And the recognition is always nice, but it’s not the most important thing for us,” says Jay Underwood, the head of the school.
High Meadows uses energy efficient appliances, has a campus-wide recycling program and advises parents to turn off their engines near the front of the school.

“I can walk the carpool line any morning, any afternoon and you can hear nothing, because the cars are silent. There is no idling,” says Underwood.
Arcado Elementary School in Lilburn is the other Georgia school getting the honor.
Nationwide, 48 schools won the Green Ribbon designation this year.
