Undefeated Clayton State Lady Lakers Roll Into Elite Eight

They are undefeated with 32 wins.

Tomorrow the Clayton State women’s basketball team continues in the division two women’s tournament against Augustana College.

The team has now reached the “Elite Eight” of the tourney.

It wasn’t easy for the number one ranked Lady Lakers to make it this far says head Coach Dennis Cox.

“I thought it was going to be a down year. We missed out on a couple of kids in recruiting and then one of the best kids that we signed who was projected to be a starter for us left the team the week before our first game.”

Also another starting player was lost due to a knee injury.

It’s been a grind says Coach Cox, but the team has perseverance and grit.

“It’ our pressure style defense, our style of play and we may get hurt in the post because of size, but we make up for with quickness and speed on the perimeter.”

It been tough on the undefeated ride says senior power forward Kayla Mobley, but the team is staying focus.

“I feel like we’re all doing a good job of it, continuing to stay together and work hard out there, while also getting our work done.”

Mobley hopes for a national championship to go along with her college degree when she graduates in May.

The Lady Lakers won the Division Two National Championship in 2011.
