University Growth Fund Expands To Atlanta To Increase Diversity In Venture Capital

Left, Peter Harris, the founding partner of the University Growth Fund and right, Diane Morais, the president of Consumer and Commercial Banking at Ally Bank, discuss efforts to recruit, teach and train local minority college students the ins and outs of venture capital.

The largest student-led equity fund in the U.S. recently opened an office in downtown Atlanta with the goal of exposing more minority college students to venture capital.

“We launched our first inaugural class of students this spring, pulling in students from Morehouse, Spelman, Gwinnett College as well as Georgia Tech and Georgia State and really excited to continue to grow the team there,” said Peter Harris, the founding partner of the University Growth Fund (UGF).

Harris along with Diane Morais, the president of Consumer and Commercial Banking at Ally Bank, were guests on Friday’s edition of “Closer Look.”

They talked with show host Rose Scott about UGF’s expansion to Atlanta and efforts and the importance to recruit, teach and train local minority college students the ins and outs of venture capital.

“The training that these students get and access they have then to incredible job opportunities when they graduate is really significant,” explained Morais.
