Former President Jimmy Carter’s grandson spoke at Tuesday night’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago and said that Vice President Kamala Harris carries the Carter legacy.

Jason Carter, chair of the Atlanta-based Carter Center, told Democrats that his “Paw Paw” can’t wait to vote for Harris.

The former president will celebrate his 100th birthday on Oct. 1. He’s currently in hospice care at his home in Plains, Georgia, and was last seen in public at the funeral of his late wife, Rosalynn Carter, who died in November at the age of 96.

Former Georgia State Sen. Jason Carter joined WABE’s “Morning Edition” after his speech on Tuesday to talk about the family’s support for Harris and her newly-minted running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

WABE’s “Political Breakfast” contributor and Democratic strategist Tharon Johnson also joined “Morning Edition” from Chicago. He’s the Georgia messenger who’s been in the thick of the strategic planning with various groups organizing to support the Democratic presidential ticket.
