USPS Honors Georgia’s Ray Charles with Forever Stamp
If you want to send a letter that says “I Can’t Stop Loving You”…..or “Hit the Road, Jack,” there’s a stamp for that.
Ray Charles is the latest musician to have a stamp of his likeness released by the U.S. Post Office.
“It’s a beautiful photograph of Ray and his trademark glasses, of course, with his wide smile appearing as if he’s there at the piano and that trademark look that everyone will immediately recognize,” says USPS spokesman Michael Miles.

Officials say 60-million of these stamps have been printed, and will be available for about a year.
“All in all, it’s a grand celebration for certainly one of Georgia’s most well-known citizens and one who is known throughout the world,” says Miles.
In addition to the stamp—-released on what would have been Charles’ 83rd birthday—-a new CD/DVD package called Ray Charles Forever is being released this week by Concord Records.
“Ray Charles had pop hits, Ray Charles played jazz. Ray Charles was really all over the place and I think the great diversity of his discography is a testament to his musical genius,” says David Barbe, the director of music business at the University of Georgia.
Charles died in 2004 and the age of 73.
