Venezuelans Living in Atlanta Respond to Recent Election

After former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez passed away in March, his chosen successor Nicolas Maduro was sworn in as interim president.

In a subsequent election, Maduro beat opponent Henrique Capriles by a slim margin of about 225,000 votes. Although Maduro has now been sworn in as president, Venezuelan officials agreed to Capriles’ request for an audit of the vote.

WABE’s Martha Dalton spoke with Venezuelan nationals living in Atlanta to find out how they’ve been affected by the election and its aftermath.
