#1. On Thursday, which metro Atlanta school district opened the doors to Birch Creek Elementary, its first new school in over ten years?

It’s Henry County.

Birch Creek will be the district’s 29th elementary school and will be led by educator Quavious Wright, who previously served as vice principal of the district’s Wesley Lake Elementary School.

“I am humbled and excited to be named the inaugural principal of Birch Creek Elementary School,” said Wright in a 2023 press release. “I genuinely believe in the ‘it takes a village’ approach when supporting students. I look forward to working with all stakeholders to start new traditions and establish a culture of collaboration to create the best learning environment possible for our students.”

#2. Days ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris arriving in Atlanta, which Georgia Republican figure offered their public endorsement of Harris for this November’s presidential race?

It’s Geoff Duncan.

The former Georgia Lt. Gov. endorsed Harris for November’s presidential election in a fiery Atlanta Journal-Constitution opinion article published just days before Harris’ first Atlanta rally since her presidential bid announcement.

Duncan took a back seat to public office when he decided not to run for re-election in 2022. This came after he angered fellow Republicans after he openly contradicted former president Donald Trump’s false claims of fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

#3. Atlanta native and actress Gail Bean is a series regular on the popular Starz series __________, which is currently filming its third season in the metro Atlanta area.

It’s “P-Valley.”

Bean credits the city’s “hustle mentality” with shaping her drive for success and her need “to always want more.”

The actress says that she brings a little bit of her life experiences growing up in Atlanta into each of her characters, including “P-Valley’s” Roulette, a young stripper learning the ropes of her new career.

#4. According to her campaign, which Georgia city will Vice President Kamala Harris return to next week to campaign with her soon-to-be-announced running mate?

It’s Savannah.

Her upcoming appearance will be her 16th trip to Georgia since assuming the vice presidency and her seventh in 2024.

Still, Trump leads Harris in most swing state polls, including in Georgia, though his edge seems to be narrowing. A Bloomberg poll published Tuesday suggested Harris has erased Trump’s lead in several swing states.

#5. Atlanta resident and author Hannah Palmer curated a project last year called “Ghost Pools,” which spotlights the history of swimming pools in East Point. A public swimming pool has not been present there since the ________.

It’s the 1980’s.

In 2010, the National Recreation and Park Association recommended that East Lake should have three pools. In 2018, a proposal for a recreation center with a pool came up in community meetings held by the city.

There was no movement on those plans, and the proposed location worried residents at the time. Then, in 2020, more city plans for a pool came up.
