#1. Earlier this week, Gov. Brian Kemp said that he plans to propose legislation that could make it more difficult for __________ to form unions.

It’s All of the above.

On Wednesday, Kemp spoke to hundreds of business leaders and elected officials at the Georgia Chamber’s annual Eggs & Issues Breakfast on how he plans to slow down the labor movement in Georgia this legislative session.

Currently, businesses in the state can recognize union representation without an election. Under the proposed legislation, businesses that do this will have to forfeit their state incentives.

#2. One of former President Donald Trump’s co-defendants in the Georgia election interference case, _____________, is alleging that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis engaged in an improper relationship with the special prosecutor she hired for the probe.

It’s Michael Roman.

Roman, who served as former President Trump’s election day coordinator in 2020, filed the motion on Monday through his lawyer, Ashleigh Merchant.

While the motion does not in itself prove the existence of a romantic relationship between Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade, Merchant alleges that Willis and Wade were romantically involved when Willis brought him on as special prosecutor, that he was not qualified for the position, and that Willis did not follow the proper procedures for hiring and swearing him in.

#3. On Tuesday, Jerica Richardson, a county commissioner in suburban Atlanta, announced that she will be challenging this prominent U.S. House member in the Democratic primary in May in a new congressional district on the west side of Atlanta.

It’s Lucy McBath.

Richardson said in a statement Tuesday that she decided to run against McBath after a Georgia judge ruled Monday that Cobb County commissioners could not override lawmakers and redraw their own districts.

Running against McBath could be an uphill climb. The incumbent said last week that she’s already raised more than $1 million for her 2024 race.

#4. On Friday, Jan. 12, 2023, the application process ends for the search in finding a new superintendent for this Georgia-based school system.

It’s Atlanta Public Schools.

Hiring APS’s next superintendent is arguably the most important thing the school board, which is now comprised of five newly elected members, will do. The onus for student success falls on the superintendent — so does the district’s overall vision.

#5. The United Negro College Fund announced a donation of $100 million from Lilly Endowment Inc., which will go toward a pooled endowment for 37 historically Black colleges and universities, including all but which of the following schools in Georgia?

It’s Valdosta State University.

The endowment was given with the goal of boosting the schools’ long-term financial stability. HBCUs, which have small endowments compared with other colleges, have seen an increase in donations since the racial justice protests spurred by the killing of George Floyd in Minnesota.
