This means that a trip to a medical office will still be necessary prior to receiving the pills.”

Shipman announced Tuesday he would keep Councilmember Marci Collier Overstreet as chair of the zoning committee instead of Councilmember Matt Westmoreland. This was after Overstreet and Councilmember Andrea Boone purchased an ad in AJC’s Sunday paper criticizing Shipman for denying all Black women on the council a chance to chair committees.

#5. Some Georgia lawmakers are confident that this legislative session will lead to the legalization of what?

It’s sports betting.

State Rep. Ron Stephens (R-Savannah) said he has never been more confident the Legislature will vote in the session that begins in January to have a constitutional amendment on the ballot in 2024 for sports gambling.

#6. True or False: Gov. Brian Kemp announced this week that he would suspend the tax on gasoline again.

It’s false.

Kemp announced back in December that the suspension on gas taxes would end on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

State motor fuel taxes are also going up in 2023 by two cents a gallon over last year’s rate for unleaded and diesel. That comes out to 31 cents a gallon for unleaded and 35 cents a gallon for diesel.
