Donald Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury on charges involving payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter.

Lawmakers agreed with Gov. Brian Kemp’s plans to pay full tuition for everyone receiving a HOPE college scholarship and to give all state employees and public school teachers $2,000 raises. In the agreement, some state law enforcement officers would get $6,000, up from a $4,000 bump sought by the House.

It’s the final day of the legislative session.

On this day of the session, lawmakers are scrambling to get their passion projects to the governor’s desk — or put a stop to the measures they want defeated.

It’s infrastructure.

Dickens announced, among other initiatives, that the city will begin the Moving Atlanta Forward infrastructure project this week, and it will dedicate $750 million to rebuild roads, fire stations, sidewalks, and bike paths. He also said the city has attracted $100 million in federal investments for roads, airports and transit.

Georgia’s legislature has historically been a citizen legislature in which, ideally, everyday citizens — not career politicians — take part in the lawmaking process.

Some say the low pay is important to maintain the citizen legislature. Others say that the pay limits who is able to run for office to those who are independently wealthy or retired, and that the legislature isn’t representative of Georgia’s population because of it.
