#1. On Tuesday, _________ people were indicted in Georgia on racketeering charges following a long-running state investigation into protests against an Atlanta-area proposed police and training facility that critics call “Cop City.”

The sweeping indictment was brought by Republican Attorney General Chris Carr. Prosecutors allege the defendants are “militant anarchists” who have supported a violent movement that prosecutors trace to the widespread 2020 racial justice protests.
The majority of those indicted were already facing charges stemming from their alleged involvement in the movement.

Tarrio was an essential force in leading the neofacist group as it became a force in mainstream Republican circles.
His sentencing comes as the Justice Department prepares to put Trump on trial at the same courthouse in Washington on charges that the then-president illegally schemed to cling to power that he knew had been stripped away by voters.

The ballots were first proposed to the council in July by Councilwoman Van Tran. The controversy around the proposal sparked when fellow Councilwoman Dorothy Dean called Tran’s idea “un-American.”
During the August meeting, the council debated the topic before Mayor John Lampl asked the residents in attendance whether they supported the idea, with the resolution gaining a unanimous vote.
