Monday marked the start of the 2025 Georgia legislative session. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp also held a press conference, announcing legislative priorities, proposing an additional $50 million in school safety funds in the aftermath of the Apalachee High School shooting.
On Tuesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” WABE politics reporters Sam Gringlas and Rahul Bali return to the program to preview the session and to talk more about the governor’s upcoming State of the State address.
During the discussion, they talked about potential themes to watch this legislative session, including transgender girls in sports, improving literacy rates, school safety, absenteeism and more. The reporters also talked about Gov. Kemp’s push for tort reform and what the Georgia gubernatorial race could look like in 2026.
