WABE Unveils Slate of New Programming & Initiatives at Preview ’25 Event
Atlanta’s Public Media Station Showcases Dynamic Lineup of New WABE Studios Content & Community Experiences
ATLANTA (Oct. 10, 2024) – WABE, Atlanta’s NPR and PBS station, today announced an exciting lineup of new and returning programs, digital initiatives and community engagement efforts at its annual WABE Preview event. The presentation, held yesterday at the Carter Center, showcased WABE’s commitment to amplifying Atlanta’s stories and voices across multiple platforms.
“WABE continues to evolve and innovate to meet our audience where they are,” said Jennifer Dorian, president and CEO of WABE. “With our expanded slate of original content, digital offerings and community, we’re poised to reach more Atlantans than ever before with high-quality, locally focused programming.”
Key announcements from the Preview ’25 event include the launch of the new WABE LIVE events initiative, designed to bring WABE’s signature programming directly to the Greater Atlanta community through performances, live show tapings, and community discussions and updates from the WABE Studios team, including:
- Expansion of “My Money Mentors,” a financial literacy reality series featuring financial experts Jacqueline Schadeck, CFP, and Chris Corinthian empowering their “clients” to make smart money moves for the future
- The launch of two new WABE Studios podcasts, “Health Wanted,” hosted by Emory Rollins School of Public Health research scientist Laurel Bristow, and “Montgomery & Company,” a sports and culture talk show hosted by two-time WNBA Champion and co-owner/VP of the Atlanta Dream, Renee Montgomery
- The premiere of “WABE Night at the Arts,” a WABE Studios video series showcasing Atlanta’s influential arts scene
- The fifth season return of the Peabody Award-winning “Buried Truths” podcast, hosted by Hank Klibanoff, examining the case of the Rev. Clarence Pickett
- New episodes of the “(re)Defining History” documentary series exploring untold stories and fresh perspectives on Atlanta’s past
- Season 3 of the music performance series “Sounds Like ATL,” showcasing Atlanta’s vibrant music scene in partnership with WABE City Lights
The WABE Preview ’25 event also highlighted WABE’s digital expansion, noting that 20% of sponsorship revenue now flows through its digital platforms, the WABE Studios podcast portfolio has grown to more than 20 titles, the station has enhanced its YouTube presence with video productions, and daily e-newsletters now reach 70,000 subscribers and donors.
Long-running shows “City Lights” and “Closer Look” were celebrated for their upcoming 10th anniversaries, demonstrating WABE’s enduring commitment to arts, culture and local issues. Station leaders also emphasized WABE’s continued success in news coverage, with its award-winning newsroom and flagship programs like “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered.” The station’s political coverage, including “Politically Georgia” in partnership with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, remains a cornerstone of its programming into the 2024 Election season.
