WABE's Week in Review: DA bows out of 'Cop City' probe as Kemp orders a state of emergency in preparation of more protests

DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston is recusing herself from the decision on whether to file charges in the officer-involved shooting at the planned site of Atlanta’s Public Safety Training Facility.



Gov. Brian Kemp signed an executive order Thursday afternoon declaring a state of emergency and called up authority to use the National Guard in response to the protesters opposed to a controversial public safety training center that critics have dubbed “Cop City.”

Fulton County Judge Robert McBurney, who has overseen the investigation from the start, heard arguments on Tuesday about the report’s release. The report may include recommendations for criminal charges, which Willis could decide to pursue by asking a standing grand jury to issue indictments.
