Warren Hill Not Executed Friday

Georgia Death Row inmate Warren Lee Hill Jr. will not be executed today. 
The state will not file an appeal today regarding the current stay of execution for Hill, according to a spokesperson for Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens’ office.
The state is awaiting a full court transcript from Fulton County Superior Court in order to file their appeal.
On Thursday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Gail Tusan granted Hill a stay of execution.
Judge Tusan’s order allows Hill more time to challenge the constitutionality of a Georgia law that shields the identity of suppliers or manufacturers of the state’s lethal injection drug.
The state is likely to file an appeal, but according to WABE legal analyst Page Pate, the state must now wait until the Georgia Supreme Court makes a ruling based on that appeal before attempting to execute Warren Lee Hill, Jr.
Per their policy, the state will not comment on open cases.

“We are deeply relieved that Warren Hill will not be executed tonight in order for the courts to more thoughtfully deliberate Mr. Hill’s mental retardation claim and the extreme secrecy surrounding Georgia’s lethal injection law.”
