A new Smart Growth America report found that vehicles killed 7,522 pedestrians in 2022 in the United States. According to the report, Georgia’s 5th Congressional District — which includes Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Decatur, College Park and East Point — is the second deadliest congressional district in the country.

Beth Osborne, the director of Transportation for America at Smart Growth America, said pedestrian fatalities are also more likely in communities with lower incomes. On Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Osborne discussed the findings of the report and stressed solutions she believes lawmakers should implement to ensure safety for all pedestrians.
